Florida Elevator Code Deadlines Past and Approaching!
Florida has adopted ASME A17.1-2019 (for new and modernized elevators) and ASME A17.3-2020 (for existing elevators), effective January 30, 2024. These updates set strict safety deadlines that all building owners must meet:
- Door Lock Monitoring (DLM): Must be in place to prevent elevator operation unless doors are fully closed.
- Deadline for existing elevators: August 1, 2025. (This date has now passed – Please contact your Account Manager if you have any questions)
- Emergency Brakes / Unintended Car Movement (UCM) Protection: All traction elevators must have dual-plunger brakes or rope-grippers installed.
- Deadline: August 1, 2028. (Schedule with your Account Manager for a compliance evaluation)
